Bedford County is a natural meeting place for old friends, college roommates, Army buddies, etc... If you're meeting someone here and want a place where you can reminisce for hours, consider these options: If an outdoor setting and a walk together sound like something you'd enjoy, you might plan a walk and picnic along the "Lake Shore Trail." The trail is a 3.5 mile loop around Shawnee Lake, part of Shawnee State Park, near Schellsburg, PA. The trail is easy for all walkers. Allow about 1 hour for the loop walk. There are picnic tables throughout the loop. If you'd like to get some sandwiches, the closest spot is the Shawnee Country Market along Route 30 in Schellsburg. We have the Shawnee State Park maps available by calling 1-800-765-3331.If you'd like to meet "under roof" to reminisce, consider these lounges where soft drinks, beer, wine, cocktails and food are served. In Schellsburg, go to the Fire Side Inn along Rt. 30. They're open 7-days a week serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Just north of Bedford at the Turnpike Interchange (exit #146), the Arena Restaurant and Lounge and Ed's Steak House both have a nice lounge area open from lunch through the evening. The Carriage House and Best Western / Clara's Place both are open in the evenings for food and drinks ... they're, also, located at the Bedford Turnpike exit #146. In downtown Bedford is the Bedford Hotel and Tavern, a casual "sports bar." Just south of Bedford is the restored Bedford Springs Resort offering both fine spirits and fine dining. The Jean Bonnet Tavern has both indoor and outdoor seating and is located along Route 30, 3 miles west of Bedford. The tavern (upstairs) offers a wide variety of beers and ales and is open from lunch through dinner.
