This progressive "eating tour" will include visits to five different restaurants while also learning about fun and historical sites in the Bedford County area.

9 am

Meet your guide in the parking lot of Hoss's Steak and Sea House (located directly across from the PA Turnpike Exit 146 Bedford, PA along Business Route 220).

As you begin your journey toward downtown Bedford you will stop for photos at the Claycomb Covered Bridge which spans the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River.

The best way to start out a morning of touring is with a piping hot cup of kettle coffee from Founders Crossing (a 3-story antiques and collectibles co-op) and a raised donut or pastry made in the historic Espy House (President George Washington's headquarters during the Whiskey Rebellion) which houses the Washington Bakery.

A short time will be provided for shopping.

Founders Crossing: (814) 623-9120

10:30 am

You will now learn about the Bedford Springs Hotel (Summer White House of President James Buchannan); one of the oldest operating courthouses in the Commonwealth; a Civil War monument; pre-American Revolutionary cememtery; an art deco service station; and the Coffee Pot. Journeying west you will learn about early transportation on the Old Forbes Trail.

11 am A stop at the Jean Bonnet Tavern may scare you into an eating frenzy. While munching on a tasty salad and rolls, you will hear about "skirts that rustle in the night"; bodies uncovered in the basement; and a card game that turned into a tragedy.

Jean Bonnet Tavern: (814) 623-2250

11:45 am

A short motor coach ride will take you to the longest covered bridge in Bedford County --- the Herline Covered Bridge ( located near Manns Choice, PA) and then onto the 1806 Schellsburg Log Church and its graveyard with famous epitaphs.

1:15 pm

The third covered bridge of this tour features glistening white boarded sides and native stone abutment. The Snook's Covered Bridge, which crosses Dunnings Creek, is sure to provide calendar worthy photo shots. A short stop at the Reynoldsdale Fish Culture Station will enable the group to visit this modern visitors center and see thousands of trout.

2:15 pm Now its time for "meat and potatoes" so we will stop at Slick's Ivy Stone Restaurant near Osterburg, PA. You will be served the main course by waitresses dressed in colonial costumes all while enjoying the beautiful collectibles and antiques that decorate the entire building.

3:30 pm Visit one more covered bridge --- the Bowser Covered Bridge, which crosses Bob's Creek, and then travel to Fisher's Country Store near Cessna. You will have time to shop in this Mennonite owned facility that features a large array of bulk foods and candies.

We always save the best for last --- dessert! Served at Ed's Steak House near Bedford, PA. After saying goodbye to your guide, lean back and relax on a full stomach as you reminisce about the life and times of early colonialists.
