This tour will take you through the scenix mountains and valleys of central Pennsylvania where you will learn about early transportation and experience the joys of a river cruise and steam driven train ride.

 

9 am

Meet your guide in the parking lot of Hoss's Steak and Sea House (located directly across from the PA Turnpike Exit 146 Bedford, PA along Business Route 220). You will immediately begin to learn about early Indian trails; the Forbes Trail; and the importance of railroads and waterways in the area.

 

9:45 am

The Broad Top area of Bedford County had an early coal field that supplied products to the cities of New York, Baltimore and Philadelphia. View the Coke Ovens at Riddlesburg and enjoy a lecture of their operations. Visit the Captain Philips Monument and learn about an early Indian massacre.

 

11:30 am

Our next stop will be at the Lake Raystown Resort where we will board the Proud Mary for a scenic two hour lake cruise. Lunch and entertainment will be provided as you enjoy the spectacular mountians, fresh air, and learn about the construction of this Army Corp. of Engineer's lake.

2 pm Visit one of the best privately owned automobile museums in America --- Swigert Automobile Museum, in Huntingdon, PA. "Herbie" will bring a smile to your face and you will marvel at a million dollar Dusenburg; old license plates; and other related antique car memorabilia.

3:30 pm

All aboard ... the East Broad Top Railroad for a steam ride through the countryside. The last operating narrow gage railroad east of the Mississippi River also has all of its rolling stock; several engines / round house and storage barns in tact. If the trip is scheduled when the train is not in operation, you will be given a ride on a street car at the Rockhill Street Car Museum. Both of these facilities are located in Orbosonia, PA.

After the ride, return to your motor coach where you can relax until your guide departs at the original pickup point.
