sign2.gif - 17588 Bytes The Big Question

Visitors often can't figure out why we call our town "Pleasantville", but the official town name is "Alum Bank". Which is it? Pleasantville or Alum Bank?

pickle.jpg - 28657 Bytes The Big Answer

Our intended town name was always "Pleasantville", but the Federal Government already had 3 Pleasantvilles listed in PA. So, we had to take on a new name, for our Post Office since there could only be one "Pleasantville" Post office. Since there was a large bank of Alum nearby, our name became Alum Bank. Alum, of course, is used to make pickles.
The Pleasantville Restaurant is conveniently located near
several Bedford County scenic driving tours and attractions.
