Chaneysville
Incident Ride
Miles: 50.4 Rating: Very Difficult |
| This ride gets its name from the historical novel "The Chaneysville Incident", set in Bedford County by David Bradley. Centering around the plight of runaway slaves who fled here on the Underground Railroad, it tells how the group was surrounded and chose to take their own lives rather than return to slavery. This ride goes by the mill where they hid out and by the cemetery where they still rest. The ride also goes over the Hewitt Covered Bridge, by Sweet Root picnic area, two exotic hunting preserves, and Clearville where you can stop at Mallow's Discount Grocery, (closed on Sundays, but there is a soda machine). This ride is quite difficult with some mountain climbs, however it does contain a long stretch that is pretty flat. As with our other rides the scenery is spectacular. This ride starts and ends at Grouseland where you can get supplies before your ride and take a shower or go swimming afterward. |
